Spoon Carving Workshop
2 July 2021
Honesty Cookery School
Woodcarving is a skill that can be accessible to anyone. With only a few tools and some wood you are ready to go. This one day spoon carving course is taught by Martin Damen, a craftsman with twenty years’ experience in shaping wood. He will teach you safe and efficient ways to use an axe, carving knife and hook knife leading to the basic techniques needed to produce a simple spoon. During the day Martin will discuss how to select the correct type of wood for your projects and the day will end with an all important lesson on tool sharpening.
All tools and timber will be provided. Martin sources the timber for the workshops from sustainably managed woodlands within 10 miles of his workshop. You will leave with your handcrafted spoon, course notes and some wood so that you are set to practise your skills again at home.
We know that all this woodworking will work up an appetite so there will be refreshments provided throughout the day along with a hearty lunch of soup and breads all produced by Honesty Bakers and Makers. All abilities welcomed. 6 people maximum. Minimum age for the course is 15 years and under 18 year olds must be accompanied by a paying and participating adult.
